Course Description
This class introduces the student to digital photography.  Through hands-on projects, students will explore a variety of camera techniques and photography styles, gaining skills in lighting, composition and camera settings.  Students will learn how to edit and enhance photos in in programs such as Photoshop.  They will also develop a portfolio of work, learn to critique photos and explore career and college pathways. College credit available.

Articulated Credit Information
Students receiving a grade of “B” or HIGHER qualify to earn one elective credit for Introduction to Photoshop at Minneapolis Community and Technical College (MCTC).

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of Digital Photography, students will be able to:

  • Apply composition elements to photography.
  • Adjust photography styles/techniques to suit different photographic purposes.
  • Critique photographic works on various criteria.
  • Evaluate and utilize all Photoshop tools.
  • Understand files, layers, channels and adjustments
  • Retouch and create photographs
  • Perform simple color correction
  • Create a composition by assembling images with layers and layer masks.
