Henry Welcomes Mr. Abdullah to the PHamily as Principal

Minneapolis Public Schools Hires Yusuf Abdullah as Principal at Henry High School

Mr. Yusuf Abdullah has been named the Principal at Henry High School.  He began his assignment on August 3rd.  Mr. Abdullah replaces Ms. Latanya Daniels who accepted the principal position at Richfield High School in June.

“My dream has come true,” Mr. Abdullah said.  “I’m coming home to family at Henry.” Mr. Abdullah explained that his next dream will be to bring staff, students and their families, and the larger community together to ensure that students at Henry will continue the school’s tradition of preparing students to excel in service and scholarship at Henry resulting in the realization of their own dreams in college and beyond.

Mr. Abdullah returns to Henry after a four year tenure as an Assistant Principal at nearby Nellie Stone Johnson Elementary, a feeder school for Henry High School.  Prior to that experience Mr. Abdullah began his educational career at Henry, managing the school’s Career and College Center from August 2006 - November 2009.  Mr. Abdullah was a Student Dean at Henry from November, 2009 until his promotion to Assistant Principal at Nellie Stone Elementary in July, 2011. During his previous assignment at Henry Mr. Abdullah also was an assistant coach on the men’s varsity basketball team and developed a popular high energy tumbling team, the High Flyers.

Mr. Abdullah received his Bachelor of Applied Sciences from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 1999.  He earned his Masters of Education from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 2007.  In 2009 Mr. Abdullah received his licensure in Educational Administration and Leadership from St. Cloud University. Mr. Abdullah also attended and graduated from the Minneapolis Public Schools Principal Academy in May, 2012.

Though the first day for classes at Henry High School does not begin until Monday, August 24th, Mr. Abdullah has set a personal goal of meeting or introducing himself to as many staff, students and their parents, and community members prior to that date.  “I’m really interested in hearing the Henry family’s “coming home to Henry” stories and learning how I can be of service in helping everyone see their dreams come true for our wonderful school.”  Please contact Mr. Abdullah by email at:
