At Henry on: Tuesdays and Wednesdays

I am a School Counselor at Henry through the ESSC (Elementary and Secondary School Counseling) Grant. This year I will work with 9th grade students who attended Hmong International Academy or Olson Middle School as 8th graders. My job is to help them have a successful transition to high school and stay on-track freshmen year. I will provide academic and social/emotional support, career counseling and guidance, connect them to other services and activities, and respond to any other needs that emerge.

Undergraduate college: Minnesota State University Moorhead
Major/minor: B.A. in History with a Psychology Minor
Graduate college: University of Minnesota, Twin Cities
Program of study: M.A. in Educational Psychology (Counseling and Student Personnel Psychology program)

1. What are your hobbies?
Playing piano, playing with my dog (chocolate lab), reading, watching my favorite TV shows, travelling, camping, being outside, eating delicious food

2. Which super power would you like to have and why?
Flying - I love the feeling of floating, I would have a fantastic view, and I would get places faster!
3. If you could have a $10,000 shopping spree to one store, which store
would it be and how long it take you to spend the $10,000?
Target - I could spend $10,000 in a day - they have everything!
4. What is the last book you read?
The Girl on the Train - I love mystery novels :)
5. If you could give the world one piece of advice, what would it be?
Look at the world from the perspectives of other people, and have empathy for those who are different from you.
6. What is one suggestion you can give students to be successful here at Henry?
Join a sport or activity and spend time with people who respect and care about you.
7. What is one suggestion you can give parents at Henry?
Get involved in the school somehow - communicate with teachers and staff, volunteer, attend sporting events, etc.
