My name is Liz Anderson, and I am so excited to be here in my second year at Patrick Henry High School!

I am a Special Education Resource Teacher here at Henry.  I hold teaching licenses in Special Education, both for teaching students with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) and students with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders (EBD).  This year I will be partner teaching with Ms. Clarke, a Geometry teacher, as well as teaching two periods of Math Strategies II, which will focus on Geometry Support.  I have always enjoyed learning and teaching Geometry, so this feels like a great fit for me.  In addition to teaching, I will be case managing for students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in grades 9-12.  I am passionate about finding ways to connect with and teach ALL students.

My family is my life outside of school.  My parents are both teachers--my mom is a retired Art teacher, and my dad is a retired elementary teacher.  I also have an identical twin sister and a sister who is 7 years my junior.  They also both went to college to become teachers!  I have a husband and a son, Noah, who is 3 and a half years old.

I was born in far north Minnesota in a town called International Falls, though I spent the first 12 years of my life moving between towns all over Minnesota.  We even lived in Florida for two years!  I returned to International Falls in 6th grade and graduated from International Falls High School.  I loved the strong community of my small town, but I always yearned for the diversity of a large city.

I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree and teaching license in Communication Arts and Literature in 2005 from the University of Minnesota in Duluth.  I then moved to Minneapolis to eventually pursue my Master's Degree in Special Education.  Before, during, and after college, I worked as a server in various restaurant settings for many years.  I am continually surprised by the connection between skills needed to work in the service industry and in the educational field.

Before coming to Minneapolis Public Schools, I worked as a teaching assistant for students with Specific Learning Disabilities for 5 years at Humboldt High School in St. Paul .  For the 2013-2015 school years, I was a Special Education Resource Teacher at Hmong International Academy in north Minneapolis.  I am ecstatic to be returning to high school!
