Social Studies

Hello and welcome to my website. From here you will learn a little bit about me and find information on one of the following courses: World History, The History of Hmong, Hmong Heritage 1 and Hmong Heritage 2.

Facts about Me:

  •  I came to Minnesota from Laos in 1976 ahead of my parents and have been here since.
  •  My family is the third Hmong family to settle in Minnesota.
  •  I grew up in public housing with the support of government assistance.
  •  I had eight brothers and eight sisters; 11 living.
  •  I enjoy walking, biking and small trips out of town.
  •  I started my educational journey with zero support through elementary and high school; not learning anything as a result.
  •  I started my post-secondary education with extension classes from the University of Minnesota and ended my education with a Masters of Education from the University of St. Thomas and two educational licensures (bilingual and social studies) through Hamline University.

Through my personal experience, I have learned that from our mistakes, we can choose to make better decisions, and through persistence, we can change our environment. My motivation is this quote from my uneducated father, “Make sure your house is better than mine and your children’s houses are better than yours.”, and my faith in God.

Please feel free to contact me via email (iab.yang@mpls.k12.mn.us) with questions or concerns. I welcome ideas on how I can better support your education or the education of your child.
