The International Baccalaureate programs at Patrick Henry High School offer a rich and challenging experience for students.. All 9th and 10th grade students at Patrick Henry are part of the IB Middle Years Program. Students in the 11th and 12th grade may chose to engage in varying levels in the IB Diploma and/or Career-related Programs.
IBO Mission: The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
Middle Years Program: The IB Middle Years Program is a comprehensive inter-disciplinary program for all students in grades 9 and 10. It seeks to develop well-rounded students who are prepared for study in any PHHS program in 11th and 12th grade, including the IB Carrer-related or Diploma Program. All students in the Middle Years Program take coureses in a variety of subject areas, including World Language.
Career-related Program: This unique and exciting opportunity for our 11th and 12th grade students brings together the mission, vision and philosophy of the International Baccalaureate with our Project Lead the Way (PLTW) - Engineering and Digital Media programs, creating an educational experience that is flexible to attend to individual student needs and interests and academically challenging to prepare students for the ever-changing world of work in the 21st century. At PHHS. the IBCP certificate is a "value-added" qualification that strengthens their preparation for post-secondary study as well as entrance into professional careers in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
Diploma Program: The IB Diploma Program is an internationally-recognized assessed program for students in grades 11 and 12. The Diploma Program seeks to develop students who have an excellent depth and breadth of knowledge. It also allows students to flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically. Students in the program study at least two languages as well as five other traditional academic subjects. The IB Diploma program offers the unique course of study called Theory of Knowledge which teaches students to explore the nature of knowledge.
